School and individual entries for Years 1-8 close Friday 25 October. Individual entries can be left at Country Tales Bookstore, Mansfield.  All entries must stipulate the school year level of the student. If the student is in a composite class, the actual year level is to be given. A prize may not be awarded if there are insufficient entries in any section, or the Judges consider the standard of entries insufficient for the section in which they are entered.
 
HANDWRITING—year 3 only           Judge: Rowan Swaney
Write out either (1) a panagram (ie a sentence containing all the letters of the alphabet) or (2) two lines from our National Anthem. Handwriting needs to be neat and consistent.

POETRY WRITING—years 3-6            Judge: Anne Arbuthnot
Write an original 5 line Sensory Poem which uses metaphor and similes to capture an emotion following the pattern          below.
SAD
Sad is dark green, (metaphor using colour)
It feels like a wet cloth, (simile)
It tastes like stale biscuits, (simile)
It smells like mouldy bread, (simile)
It sounds like wind in the trees. (simile)
HAPPINESS
Happiness is bright orange,
It feels like a feather,
It tastes like a chocolate cake,
It smells like Granny’s perfume,
It sounds like a waterfall.

STORY WRITING—years 1-4              Judge: Trish Gilson
Write an original story entitled “Summer holidays are the best”. The  story must fit on one piece of paper (any size).

OPINION WRITING—years 5 & 6  only.  Judge: John Condon
10. Discuss “Why does your community need volunteers?”   Handwritten or typed entries on A4 paper—maximum 150 words. The winning entry  in this section will compete in  the Central & Upper Goulburn Group Finals at Kilmore on April 4, 2020.

11. SHORT STORY—years 7 & 8.                                                      Judges: Trish Gilson & Amanda Swaney
Write an original short story of 400 words or less. The title of the story is “The Photograph” . The story must be on  A4 paper and may be handwritten or typed. The winning        entry will be published in the Mansfield Courier.

12.  ADULT TRADITIONAL BUSH POETRY
Write an original poem of between 16-40 lines in a  rhyming bush poetry style.  The subject of the poem is to be related to rural/bush life. Poems to be sent to                 Mansfield Bush Poetry Competition, PO Box 100,  Mansfield, 3724 or handed to Country Tales Bookshop, 53 High Street, Mansfield by Monday 28 October. The           winning entry will receive  a $50 cash prize.

The Mansfield Bush Poets group will be performing in the Luncheon Pavilion at 11 am on show day.
